McIlroy Heading To Drawing Board

Rory McIlroy was not pleased a wee bit after failing to make it to the cut for the second time in this year’s golfing season.

He felt that his performance in the ongoing US PGA majors in New Jersey was pathetic and needs to visit the drawing board in order to get rid of his poor form at the majors. This is a happy sign for all Rory fans as the golfer is determined to get back his good from and perform well in the majors.

Even after missing to make a single birdie on his opening 74, McIlroy stuck to his task and concentrated hard to reach the last home where a par could have extended his tournament. But, unfortunately he failed miserably at the 18th.

McIlroy, world number 4 player, has decided that he needs to rethink his game and strategy. He has made up his mind to get back into the drawing board and make a few changes in his game that will help him to play better. It is not that his performance was very bad at the US PGA championships, but luck deserted him at the 18th.

Gary Player motivated Rory McIlroy to step up his fitness regime

For a long time, Rory McIlroy has credited Gary Player as how this South African has played a role in his fitness regime.

He used to apply a different treatment for the Northern Irishman by calling him fat. Remember, 7 to 8 years back when McIlroy had hair sticking out at all the places and puppy fat around his belly. He was scrambling with a back complaint.

The South African, pinching McIlroy’s belly, told that ‘You need to get fit Rory, look at that weight you’re carrying. You need to strengthen your core.’

Gary, who might be as popular these days for his commitment to fitness as his 9 major championship victories, then invited Rory to punch him in stomach. As one can could imagine – for who wants to punch a legend deep into his 70s, – Rory’s first few attempts were quite doubtful. (more…)

McIlRoy Admits Defeat To 17-year-old Golfer

McIlRoy might be the #1 golfer at the moment but he recently had to admit defeat to a young 17-year-old golfer Brad Dalke. The two had an arm wrestling session where the teen American golfer beat the world’s No. 1 hands down.

Before Friday, Dalke was a much raved-about junior golfers across the country but his latest with Rory in a completely different game surely rendered one more feather in his cap.

The two met at a Nike event hosted at South Carolina’s Sage Valley Golf Club where McIlRoy agreed to have an arm wrestling session with the teen golfer- which actually proved as a huge mistake for the #1. The teen golfer crushed the world’s numero uno golfer within seconds. What more, he even went to uploading the arm-wrestling video online with “Sorry Rory”.

It was a great surprise appearance for the North Irishman at that Nike clinic where he amazed everybody with some pep talk. However, when it was about strength display, it was Brad Dalke who happened to surpass even the golf legend.

Rory was seemingly impressed with Brad and as both of them were about to start with their elbows on the table, McIlroy raved about Brad’s strong biceps.

“See this”, remarked Rory pointing to Brad’s arm. “No chance.” (more…)

Rory McIlroy shifts focus to Masters

World number one Rory McIlroy has insisted that he is happy with the performance he made at his debut in the Arnold Palmer Invitational  and said that now he can fully focus on the Augusta Masters that tees off in a couple of weeks’ time.

The Northern Irishman enjoyed his best round of the season so far on the PGA Tour, having hit an excellent score of 66 but he stumbled to a score of 71 in the third round before managing two birdies in the last three holes to salvage the score somewhat, ending with a tally of two under 70.

However, he said that he got what he wanted to get out of his first appearance at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, having had four very competitive rounds of golf that will hold him in good stead ahead of the Masters. He added that he saw some progress on things that he had been working on during the last week. However, Rory McIlroy admitted that he still needed to work on some things before the Augusta National.

McIlroy also said that it would definitely have felt nice if he managed to be in contention for the event but he admitted to his happiness with his progress and says that it gives him two good weeks to work on and get some of the things that are still not working to fire. (more…)
