Rory McIlroy is a professional golfer from the British Isles, his place of birth being Northern Ireland and has been one of the top ranked amateur golfers during his time in the amateur circuit. He has been a part of the European side, Great Britain and Ireland sides as well as the Ireland side during his time as an amateur as well as a professional. He was the top ranked amateur golfer in the world for a single week in 2007 when he was just 17 years old. Having turned professional in 2007, McIlroy quickly established himself on the European Tour circuit as one of the biggest talents and brightest stars with a very bright future. After his first Tour victories in 2009 and 2010 in the European Tour and the PGA Tour respectively, his fellow professionals started to consider McIlroy as serious competition. His form in the 2010 season was so brilliant that he was called up to represent the European side against the United States of America in the Ryder of 2010, an opportunity that Rory McIlroy grabbed with both hands. He is one of the youngest golfers ever to play in the Ryder Cup in its history.
Possibly the biggest moment of his career came in 2011 when he secured his first Major title in professional golf, the US Open and he did with some style finishing with a score of 16 under par, which is a record at the event. His winning margin was by eight shots and became the youngest winner of the US open since 1923 when Bobby Jones won it at 21 years of age. Not only on the golf course, Rory McIlroy is considered as a potential world beater in terms of endorsement deals as well and it is believed that in a few years, he will even overtake the likes of Tiger Woods with his earnings.
The victory in the US Open improved his ranking in the Official World Golf ranking where he was ranked as the fourth best golfer in the world. He finished with a T4 in the recently concluded in the WGC-HSBC Champions and this further improved his ranking and made him the second best player in the world at the moment. Rory McIlroy is definitely a phenomenal golfer and considering the fact that he is just 22 years old, he has time on his side to carve his name in the history books of golf.
