Top golfer Rory McIlroy got married to his sweetheart in a very lavish ceremony at five-star Ashford Castle, a 13th century Irish building.

The event had tight security as they left nothing to chance. The 27-year old golfer wanted the celebration to be a private affair.

A reported 200 guests were in attendance at the party at the 350 acre estate as McIlroy wedded his American fiancée Erica Stoll. Golfers were in attendance like Shane Lowry, Sergio Garcia, Paul McGinley, Martin Kaymer and co.

McIlroy met his eventual bride in 2012 at the Ryder Cup event at Medinah Country Club. She was working then with the PGA of America and she offered him help as he competed in the singles. He was seeing tennis star Caroline Wozniacki then. He was eventually engaged to the tennis star but they called it off in 2014. He started seeing Stoll before he engaged her.

The golf champ spent the last weekend partying in Miami with his friends for his bachelor party and the castle has been booked for the entire wedding to celebrate their love.

The event would see English musician Ed Sheeran make an attendance in the post wedding ceremony while American soul singer Stevie Wonder was flown in to provide good tunes in the evening, with the help of a full orchestra.

A lot of locals were gathered at the entrance into the castle as they tried catching a glimpse of the stars going in. Fireworks are planned for the evening aside other fanfare. The planning team worked at keeping the details of the events a top secret until the D-day. After the non-wedding guests left, a security procedure was initialized that would only allow individuals with special security wristbands get access to the castle until Monday. The wedding is reportedly in the range of €300,000 to €500,000.
